Not gonna lie, I thought this anime would be more comedic than deep at first, but I see they also include nice deep moments/backstories with realistic and serious issues related to the characters and I dig it. They aren't just trying to make fun of the characters and them being "old", but actually telling a story about their dreams, hopes, and struggles.

I am enjoying it for being a fresh idea as well. Usually anime of middle aged people are either sad to making fun of them. So you are right. :)
